The average rent for homestays in the different regions of Spain can be seen on the map below. The average rent prices have been calculated through the advertisements posted to Roomlala's website. If you want to rent a room in a homestay in land of tapas, sangria and flamenco, you'd be spending on average €245 a month, a lot less than a homestay in England!
It's no surprise that the Extremadura region in the west of Spain is the cheapest rent in terms of homestays. With an average monthly rent of just €182! After the Extremadura region, Castile and Leon region and Galicia have an average rent for a one bedroom homestay of just €188 and €200 respectively.
Heading to the south of Spain, you'll likely be paying around €255 a month for a homestay in Andalusia. In Seville however, rent prices are slightly higher, at around €316 a month.
Bilbao: The most expensive city in SpainContrary to popular belief, the most expensive city with regards to renting a room in a homestay, is Bilbao and not in fact the capital, Madrid. With the Basque region being the most expensive in Spain, one could expect to pay around €410 a month for a room in Bilbao. With regards to renting a room in Madrid and Barcelona, one could expect to pay €361 and €384 respectively.
With that said, the homestay renting scheme is a lot cheaper than traditional renting. This type of renting allows you to save money and is highly recommended for students also. You might want to consider an accommodation in exchange for work for an even more cost-effective solution to your housing needs.
