A 3 day break in Edinburgh is just enough time to explore and discover the Scottish capital. Edinburgh is both a modern city and an ancient one – making it a perfect stop for a weekend break! Roomlala has drawn up a quick itinerary to make sure you don’t miss any of Edinburgh’s highlights.

Day 1: The Old Town

In a city like Edinburgh, centuries worth of history is at your fingertips. Start off your trip with an unmissable visit to Edinburgh Castle. As one of the most popular attractions, it is better to get there early to avoid the queues. If you stick around until after lunch you can hear the famous One o’clock Gun. From there, you can visit the stunning St Giles’ Cathedral or the National War Museum, depending on what takes your fancy! Take a trip down the Royal Mile towards the Palace of Holyrood House and the Scottish Parliament for more of Edinburgh’s exciting history. End the day with a wander round the many restaurants, pubs and shops on the Royal Mile and in the Canongate and Holyrood areas of the city. You won’t be disappointed by the many hidden gems this part of the city has to offer as it dates back over 800 years!

Day 2: Scottish Pride

Scotland has many reasons to be proud of its history and culture, and there’s plenty of opportunities to discover why in Edinburgh. Take a tour round the Scotch Whisky Experience and sample some of the country’s best-known export. Close by is the Camera Obscura, an unusual 175 year-old attraction which projects live moving images of the city and its residents onto a small circular table while you listen to tales of the city’s history. To complete the day, check out the National Museum of Scotland for an insight into everything you could possibly want to know about the history of Scotland – and it’s free!

Despite the brisk Scottish weather (bring a coat), Edinburgh has so much to explore outdoors that it’s definitely worth facing the wind for! The Royal Botanic Gardens offer a beautiful, curated outdoor space, with a variety of exotic plants and themed gardens to admire. If rugged Scottish hillsides are more your thing, Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park is a must-visit for its stunning views over the city. On top of this ancient volcano is a large fort, one of four in the city which is over 2000 years old! To wrap up your trip, have a look at
